CaLP Core Cash Transfer Programming (CTP) Skills for Strategic Planning and Decision-Making in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

This 2 day face-to-face course is designed to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence of humanitarian organizations’ senior managers to inform and support the strategic decision making processes as organizations engage in cash transfer programming. The course targets senior level staff primarily involved in strategic planning and decision-making at the organizational level. This group might include senior Programme Managers, Country Directors, Head of Base, or Programme Advisors at HQ level.

The objectives of this course are to impart skills for participants to be able to:

  • Make strategic decisions for the design, implementation and monitoring of cash transfer programming (CTP)
  • Determine, for their own organization, an acceptable level of risk for using CTP
  • Support a response analysis process on CTP related aspects
  • Support the production of organization level standard operating procedures (SOPs) for designing and delivering CTP
  • Advocate for the appropriate use of CTP to meet humanitarian needs across sectors
  • Discuss the key aspects of CTP coordination

Minimum Requirements:

  • New to or limited exposure to cash transfer programming
  • An understanding of emergency programming
  • Proficiency in English language both written and oral (i.e. must be able to participate fully in training course delivered in English)
  • Work for Government, national or international NGOs, the Red Cross/Crescent, the UN or donor organizations

Selection Criteria and  Process:

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling bases and selection will consider:

  • Whether applicants meet the minimum requirements (see above)
  • The balance between different organizations - a mix is preferred to strengthen cross learning
  • Gender balance - a balance between men and women is preferred
  • Priority will be given to applicants based in Ethiopia

Course fees:

  • UN/donor organisation - $350
  • International NGO - $300
  • Ethiopian Government or National NGO - No fee (this course is partly subsidized by OFDA through World Vision)

Course fees include:

  • Course materials
  • Lunch, morning and afternoon tea breaks

What is not covered:

Participants are required to make their own accommodation and transport costs
