CaLP Market Assessment Tools Training for Team Leaders (One-day) in Nairobi, Kenya

CaLP will organise a one-day training on Market Assessment Tools for Team Leaders. This training focuses on how to practically organise and manage a market assessment and how to organize the analysis and presentation of market data.

The training is designed to strengthen participants’ ability to:

  • Describe market roles and responsibilities
  • Understand how to organize market analysis and apply market analysis to programme design

This one-day course is suitable for humanitarian workers involved in gathering and using market information. This may include those involved in needs assessments, program design, proposal development, logframe development, development of theories of change, monitoring and evaluation, decision-making regarding program direction, and providing technical advice about markets, trade, and private-sector engagement.

This group is likely to include technical specialists from food security, WASH, shelter, and other sectors. It is also likely to include those with roles supporting the mainstreaming of protection, the mainstreaming of gender, emergency management, operations and logistics managers, program and project managers at various levels, monitoring team leaders, and others. 

Applicants should have:

  • Previous experience of market assessments
  • As a substitute for experience, previous course work on a particular market assessment tool or on market assessment tools more broadly
  • Understanding of how markets operate and support humanitarian responses and recovery
  • Familiarity with common vocabulary used to describe markets in humanitarian settings
  • A role that supports and contributes to market assessment and analysis

Applicant commitments

  • If required, applicants should get approval from their manager before applying for this course.
  • Applicants will stay throughout the course and participate in the evaluation session, contributing detailed feedback to strengthen the course in future.

Selection criteria

Applicants will be selected based according to:

  • How closely they meet the course requirements
  • Having a range of people from different disciplines and organisations
  • Creating a gender balance as far as possible

Arrangements

The training will take place from 9:00am to 5:00pm in Nairobi.  

Morning/afternoon refreshments and lunch will be provided.  Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements.
